Business Gas Licences are required for the storing or distributing of gas; installing gas burning appliances or equipment; installing gas or medical gas piping systems; repairing, servicing, or maintaining gas burning appliances or equipment; repairing, servicing or maintaining gas or medical gas piping systems; or selling, renting or leasing gas burning equipment other than portable camping equipment.

Individual Gas Licences are required to install, repair or service gas burning appliances or equipment, to operate a truck transporting gas, to operate a gas filling plant, or to install, repair, service or verify a gas or medical gas piping system.

Individual Gas Eligibility Requirements

To obtain a G2 Gas Technician Licence, applicants must have at least 2,000 hours of combined technical and practical experience under a Class G2 or G1 licence holder, must successfully complete the TSSA training curriculum (CSA modules 1 to 24 inclusive), and must successfully pass the Gas Board examination.
To obtain a G1 Gas Technician Licence, applicants must hold a valid Class G2 Licence, have at least 2,000 hours of combined technical and practical experience under a Class G1 licence holder, 500 of which must be on systems greater than 400,000 British Thermal Units, and must also successfully pass the Gas Board Examination.
To obtain a G2-L Gas Technician with Liquid Propane Endorsement Licence, applicants must hold a G2 Gas Technician Licence, must have over 200 hours of experience with liquid propane under the supervision of a Class A2, A4, G2-L or G1-L licence holder, and must also complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board.
To obtain a G1-L Gas Technician with Liquid Propane Endorsement Licence, applicants must hold a G1 Gas Technician Licence, must have 200 hours of experience with liquid propane under the supervision of a Class A4 or G1-L licence holder, and must also complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board.
To obtain a GP Gas Piping Fitter Licence, applicants must hold a certificate of qualification which is issued under the Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification Act in the plumbing or steamfitter-pipefitter trades, must successfully complete the TSSA training curriculum (CSA modules 3, 4, 8, 10 and 15), and must successfully pass the Gas Board examination.
To obtain an ICE-P Propane Internal Combustion Technician Licence, applicants must hold a certificate of qualification issued under the Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification Act in the automotive service technician (electrical and fuel) trade, the heavy equipment service technician trade or the truck and transport service technician trade, and must complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board.
To obtain an ICE-NG Natural Gas Internal Combustion Technician Licence, applicants must hold a certificate of qualification issued under the Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification Act in the automotive service technician (electrical and fuel) trade, the heavy equipment service technician trade or the truck and transport service technician trade, and must also complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board.
To obtain an ICE/IV-P Propane Internal Combustion Industrial Vehicle Technician Licence, applicants must complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board.
To obtain an ICE/IV-NG Natural Gas Internal Combustion Industrial Vehicle Technician Licence, applicants must complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board.
To obtain a PPO-2 Propane Plant Operator Licence, applicants must have eight (8) hours of experience under a PPO-2 licence holder and must complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board (PGAC 100-1).
To obtain a PPO-1 Propane Plant Operator Licence, applicants must have 300 hours of experience under a Class PPO-1 licence holder and must complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board.
To obtain a PTO-2 Propane Truck Operator Licence, applicants must hold the appropriate class of driver's licence, as required under the Motor Vehicle Act, must have 150 hours of experience under a Class PTO-2 licence holder, and must complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board.
To obtain a PTO-1 Propane Truck Operator Licence, applicants must hold the appropriate class of driver's licence, as required under the Motor Vehicle Act, must have 150 hours of experience under a Class PTO-1 licence holder, and must complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board.
To obtain a Class M gas Fired heating and Refrigeration Maintainer Licence, applicants must hold a certificate of qualification issued under the Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification Act in the refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic trade, must successfully complete the TSSA training curriculum (CSA modules 3, 4, 8, 12, 15, 26, 30 and 31) and must successfully pass the Gas Board examination.
To obtain a DAT Domestic Appliance Gas Technician Licence, applicants must hold a certificate of qualification issued under the Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification Act, must successfully complete the TSSA training curriculum (CSA modules 2 to 9 and 11 to 16), and must successfully pass the Gas Board Examination.
To obtain an RVT Recreation Vehicle Gas Technician Licence, applicants must have at least 480 hours of field experience under a Recreational Vehicle Gas Technician Licence or Class A1 Domestic Compressed Gas Licence holder, and must successfully complete the TSSA training curriculum (CSA modules 1 to 9 plus 11 to 16 and 18, 19, 21 and 22).
To obtain an IMT Industrial Maintenance Gas Technician Licence, applicants must hold a certificate of qualification issued under the Apprenticeship and Occupational Certification Act in an occupation acceptable to the Gas Board, must successfully complete the TSSA training curriculum (CSA modules 1 to 13, 15, 22, 26 and 29 to 31) and training on site specific equipment, and must also successfully pass the Gas Board examination.
To obtain a Class F Medical Gas Installer Compressed Gas Licence, applicants must hold a certificate of qualification in the plumbing, steamfitter-pipefitter or welding trade, or have experience in servicing medical gas piping systems which is satisfactory to the Gas Board. Applicants must also successfully pass a brazer performance qualification test in accordance with a registered brazing procedure.
To obtain a Class G Medical Gas Verifier Compressed Gas Licence, applicants must hold a Class F Medical Gas Licence for at least one (1) year and must successfully complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board.
